For Immediate Release

Oh! Canada!

Montréal, QC Canada * June 3, 2009 * Gemme Audio, inventors of V-Flex™ and Breathe™ technologies and makers of renowned loudspeakers, announce the appointment of The Signal Collection, LLC as their exclusive distributor in the U.S.A.

Designed by Robert Gaboury, Gemme Audio made its first big stir in 2006 with the introduction of their "V-Flex" technology, which is a particular bass loading design that permits drivers as small as 4" in diameter to perform with nearly full-range heft and extension. Their first proof of the V-Flex concept was the Vivace loudspeaker, a single-driver loudspeaker utilizing a 4" loudspeaker driver that has shocked listeners and reviewers with its ability to produce very low bass without compromising performance in other portions of the band. Now in its 2nd iteration, Vivace's legendary performance is still available to worshippers at the throne of the Flea Powered SET.

However, V-Flex soon found a home in other models from Gemme, expressed gracefully in the Tanto (now in its 3rd iteration) and the newest model: Katana. These latest iterations of all three speakers feature the V-Flex Extreme technology, pushing the performance of these otherwise modest loudspeakers beyond "reasonable" - considering the driver compliment.

"It was this 'unreasonable' aspect of the products that attracted me," shared Chris Sommovigo of The Signal Collection. "When Jean-Pierre Boudreau - Gemme's co-founder - first approached me to distribute, I wasn't keen on the idea. Anyone who knows my lines also knows that I am not fond of conventional loudspeakers - the technology has not only hit a wall, but the myriad other players in the conventional speaker market have created a raw commodity out of something that was once an art. Auditioning the Gemme Katana changed my mind - and that's an otherwise impossible task."

Into this mix of unreasonably high-performance V-Flex loudspeakers is now introduced Gemme's Phénix line of loudspeakers, including the Green Gem and the Manticore loudspeakers.

The Green Gem is a quasi-custom product that incorporates a credenza-like bass cabinet (utilizing their new Breathe™ technology) with two high efficiency monitors called "Soprano." Prices for the Green Gem begin at $40,000.00 USD and go up, depending on the level of customization the client desires. This can include a variety of finishes, as well as some structural/architectural changes to the shape of the product.

With regard to Green Gem's marriage of "lifestyle" and high performance, Sommovigo shares, "The Green Gem is more of a category than a single product, due to its customizability. For some clients it is equally important that a product fit in with the décor of a beautifully appointed living space, and Green Gem affords the music lover an uncompromising level of performance without imposing on interior design."

The Manticore (a name derived from the early Persian word, meaning "man-eater") is an extreme reference product. Available in two variants (A bass-horn version and a Breathe version), it is specified at 100dB sensitivity (2.83v/1m) with a power handling of 1,000w ... thus capable of producing almost 130dB. "To give an idea, 115 dB is the Rolling Stones in show playing at full blast," quipped Jean-Pierre of Gemme. "And then when you hear them, you might say they play like no other speaker you ever heard." Production of Manticore is slated for later in 2009.

With a few early-adopters joining the dealer network this week, The Signal Collection and Chris Sommovigo will be welcoming more in the days and months to come.

"This lineup punches so far above its weight-class that the value is very high. Built and finished to some of the highest standards in the industry, it wouldn't surprise me if Gemme causes a few worries among the stalwarts and juggernauts of the conventional loudspeaker pantheon," said Sommovigo. "This is just the kind of product the industry needs: Unreasonably high performance, finish, and value. I'm glad Gemme found us ... and I'm glad we found them."

SSI 2009 REPORT
April 6, 2009

Our team is just back from an absolutely great Montreal Show. The Phenix Green Gem got incredible response from visitors and the press. They stunned the audience every time we played them, and with live music, visitors never heard such a dynamic sound that can so easily play at concert level. With some classical music that had very fast and strong dynamic swings, or on slapstick bass performances, listeners were almost frightened by the impact of the sound. It was the hit of the show, and even television was there and presented the Green Gem to millions of viewers.

Our new entry level Bowie line is also sure to be a total success with many dealers and distributors showing major interest in Canada and abroad. Playing Chinese drums with sticks on the small Cap-Chat tower was a revealing and exhilarating experience for visitors, showing the dynamics, and great bass these small, 30 inch high speakers are capable.

Our suite was equipped with some of the best gear available, such as the
Neodio (France) NR 1200 high-end 150 watts integrated, and natural sounding NR One CD player used with our Green Gem. The new Obad Imports 50W Tripath Kingrex amp and preamp were also used with our speakers, and never ceased to impress our visitors with great sound. The cool new Mass Fidelity Lil' Doosey 40 watts (into 4 ohms) amplifier was used with the new Bowie line. The famous DAC3 from Bel Canto, as well as incredible new cables from Blueberry Hill Audio, and the isolation TubePlates and TubeBlocks from Boston Audio Design were also used to excellent effect.

Gemme Audio Launches its Bowie series at SSI 2009
Gemme Audio introduit la série d'enceintes Bowie au SSI 2009
March 29, 2009

New Gemme Audio Bowie Line
A revolution in many ways...

Gemme Audio innovates again during Montreal Salon Son & Image 2009, and answers a fundamental question: Is it possible to match high performance and low price in a hi-fi loudspeaker? With the amazing Gemme Audio Bowie line, the answer is a resounding YES!

In less than 3 years, Gemme Audio has become synonym with excellent sound, and beautiful, daring designs in high-end loudspeakers. Our cutting-edge VFlex and Phenix series won top accolades from the press around the world. In 2009, after almost two years of hard work, another important goal is achieved: designing Gemme Audio loudspeakers, whose price starts at a low $1,500. Gemme Audio's Bowie series is a true revolution in quality/cost ratio designs, and a real answer to the needs of the new economy.

The Bowie series offers these new models.
The Mont-Joli profits from our experience designing the Ania mini monitor, presented last year, which prompted a magazine to call it the “mini Katana”. The Mont-Joli uses the same ribbon tweeter, but with a larger 5.25 inch  mid/bass unit, in a 12 x 7 x 6” cabinet. The Cap-Chat is a small tower cabinet using the same drivers as the Mont-Joli, in a 30 x 7 x 6” cabinet. The Kénogami offers two mid/bass drivers and exceptoinal performances in its 33 x 7 x 6” cabinet. A center channel is also offered in a closed box design, using the same drivers.

Thee beautiful finish are offered: Satin walnut, piano black, and optionally, the magnificent, high gloss burl wood finish. Effective supports are also included.

Gemme Audio's Bowie series can be seen as entry level based on its affordable pricing, but do not expect anything less than excellent sound and the characteristic Gemme Audio signature in realism and natural rendition of music.

It is a rendez-vous that you simply can't afford to miss:
SSI 2009 - SUITE 705.

We'll be pleased to meet you and charm you with beautiful sound in a reasonably priced package.

 SSI 2009 - SUITE 705.

Ce sera un plaisir de vous rencontrer.

CrunchGear - This set sounds incredible
March 25, 2009

crunchgear2

CrunchGear Online magazine wrote a report about our CES presentation of the Green Gem. They loved those speakers to say the least:

"
Located 31 floors above Vegas at the Venetian hotel was an entire suite dedicated solely to one thing: the Gemme Audio Phenix Green Gem Loudspeakers. This ain’t your Daddy’s speaker set, oh no.

Now, I’m just a lowly gadget blogger. On the spot in Vegas, I didn’t have time (or the hardware) to throw down a series of On-Axis and Off-Axis frequency response tests, or to measure the Impedance magnitude variation. In fact, I don’t even know what the hell that all means. What I do know, though, is that this set sounds incredible - and coming in at $37,500 and up, they better.

Each set comes as a trio: the 12-cubic feet bass enclosure with 2 x 15-inch drivers (600 watts, rated at around 100 dB per watt), and a pair of Soprano mini-speakers, each with a 6-inch “ultra low mass” midrange driver and an Alnico (Aluminum/Nickel/Cobalt magnet) powered tweeter. The entire thing is built by hand in New York, order by order.

It’s easy to hate on premium products like these (”Wtf, is it held together by unicorn hair and dragon scales?”). It’s well out of my price range, but that in no way means I can’t drool over them. If you’ve got the cash to drop on these, hit up the company - at this price, I’d expect that they’d be down to set up a time to give you a demo of your own.

Here's what JV had to say about our Phénix Green Gem loudspeaker system:

"The Green Gem wowed me once again on Norah Jones' "Come away with me," which sounded extraordinarily natural in timbre and texture."

CES 2009 Design Awards - Phenix Green Gem
March 4, 2009

Gemme Audio Phénix Green Gem wins an award in the Top 10 Design Awards List posted by Philip Gold of Enjoythemusic.com.

Here's what Phil had to say about our Phénix Green Gem loudspeaker system:

This is not your grandfather's radiogram. The Phoenix Green Gem (Phoenix standing for rebirth) is a an elegant bass cabinet with two matching satellite speakers, handmade for those few who can afford the $50,000 price tag and want to make a visual, as well as audio, statement. This spatially coherent design features BREATHE bass loading technology in which breathing holes are used in place of the usual bass reflex vent tubes. Although each of the two 15-inch drivers has a 6mm excursion capacity, in practice they barely move even under demanding low bass musical content. This translates into lowered distortion and high dynamic range. Each Soprano mini speaker features a 6-inch midrange and a 1-inch horn super tweeter to cover the higher frequencies. The three cabinets combine to give you an efficiency of 100dB/W/m. You can close the doors on the Bass cabinet when not in use to show off the wonderful finish.

DAGOGO CES Report - Phenix Green Gem: statement pieces

Dagogo magazine CES report by Doug Schroeder reports on the Phenix Green Gem paired with beautiful Angelis Labor gear:

"The speakers and electronics were an unusual combination, but exquisitely satisfying in so many respects. While not for the average home, they are exceptional statement pieces with true character and upscale sound."

The Phenix Green Gem: Wow! says JV!

In its "noteworthy speakers above $20K" report from CES, Jonathan Valin, from The Absolute Sound, reports about the Green Gem: "...the Green Gems wowed me once again on Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me,” which sounded extraordinarily natural in timbre and texture. On the percussion workout of “Schlagstücke 5” [Nova], the Green Gems were a little soft on top but very tight and well defined in the bass on piano and timp..."

Gary's Stereos Blog - Green Gem sounded outstanding

The Venetian Hotel was home to high-end audio and home theater demonstrations at CES 2009. Many of the exhibitors were mainstream manufacturers and others were names most people have never heard. One of the best demonstrations was Gemme Audio, based in Montreal, Canada. They were demonstrating their new Phenix Green Gem speaker, a three-piece system with a 12 cubic foot bass enclosure and two Soprano satellite speakers. The goal of the Green Gem system is to create a three-dimensional reproduction of the original recording, where scale, width, perspectives and movement are all conveyed to the listener.

The system sounded outstanding with beautifully open midrange and solid, deep bass with extraordinary extension. The beautiful craftsmanship of the enclosures is as impressive as the sound quality of the system. The Gemme Audio system is certainly not for everyone, but is audio at its finest. Suggested retail price starts at $37,500 and the model in the photo is $50,000. Each system is hand made to order.

KATANA - New remarkable review from Sweden

HIGHFidelity Magazine in Sweden recently released a terrific review of the Katana.

As our Sweden distributor said: This HIGHfidelity reviewer has an excellent reputation. I read his articles with the attitude: "If he says that something is good - then it is really good!". So I will say that readers who know him will draw the conclusion that Katana is something never heard of before!

One of the review comments: "Katana are absolutely beautiful with genuine piano black finish. The result is comparable with the finish of the outstanding concerto grand pianos made by the Italian company Fazioli."

KATANA gets a thumbs up review from Norway!

"Whatever music you like, this is a stunning loudspeaker. It sounds just as good as it looks, and that says a lot!"

German Audiophiles love the KATANA!

Recently our German distributor, Hifi2die4 presented the Katana at a dealer's place. A customer sent us his comments after the demonstration:

"Nobody should lie and tell me that visual appearance and surface feel don't matter. Sure they do. The Katana is mind-blowing. It's size is huge enough to take it seriously and small enough to have freedom with the best wife on earth. The surface and lacquering is outstanding.

That is exactly what I've always been looking for: Deep -I mean DEEP, dry and punchy bass, a broad natural mid range, crystal clear and spherical high range. All of these attributes in perfect combination, none of them predominate, none of them pesky. All together introduced on a deep and broad soundstage. Especially the deep, natural bass out of only one 7" mid/bass speaker is amazing. It sounds like there was a 15"/1.000 W Subwoofer somewhere. Salute for you and your engineers.

I don't really know what I can say more. It's the best cost ratio speaker I have listened to, it's the sound I was looking for, it's a visual highlight.

Best regards from a complete addict,

Volker"
